"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthews 28:19-20 |
HistoryNew Madrid Baptist Church, 1240 Scott Street, will celebrate its 59th Anniversary on July 11th. The Church was organized July 11th, 1948 with 19 charter members. The Reverend and Mrs. J.E. Brown, who were serving as missionaries for the New Madrid Baptist Association were instrumental in gathering together the small group of Baptists and guiding them in organization. The first meetings of the Church were in the old Masonic Hall. Lots were purchased on Scott Street where the church is today. On May 14, 1950, the first services were held in the basement structure. The first pastor's home was completed in January of 1951. The present educational facilities were built and occupied during 1954-55 under the leadership of Bro. Edward E. Wolfe. Volunteer labor under the direction of Paul Foster, Bud Davis, and B.E. Rass helped completed the sanctuary of the church in 1956. Finances were provided throughout the entire building program keeping indebtedness at a bare minimum. The Church has continued to grow progressively under the leadership provided by dedicated pastors. By Jeanette Haubold |
